Pilotless vs Status Hero and its successor, Steady
First, what happened to Status Hero: Steady's About page says "we built the successor to Status Hero, Steady" [6]. As of 2026-10-21, statushero.com also returns a permanent redirect (301) to runsteady.com, and the old Status Hero pricing URL ends up at Steady's pricing page [1]. This page compares Pilotless with Status Hero's successor: Steady.
TL;DR: Steady calls itself "the drop-in teamwork OS that keeps people & AI agents coordinated automatically" [2]. It runs check-ins, goal updates, AI agents ("Echoes") and personalised daily digests across Slack, Teams, email, apps and an MCP server, with credit-based pricing [2][3]. Pilotless is much smaller: a free GitHub App that writes one weekly digest from repo activity and lists stalled PRs and unassigned issues. Pick Steady if you want a coordination layer across many tools and teams. Pick Pilotless if you want a free weekly GitHub view of what's stuck.

How they work
Steady runs what it calls two loops: a "big-picture" loop (goals and progress) and a "ground-level" loop (teammates in sync). It connects your stack, collects check-ins (agents can self-report too), and distils everything into personalised digests delivered where people work [2]. Pricing is in credits: for example, a check-in delivered to 5 people costs 5 credits, and LLM tokens also use credits [3]. It's built for coordinating several teams and AI agents, and it's SOC 2 Type 2 with SSO, SAML and SCIM [3].
Pilotless doesn't run check-ins. It reads GitHub, and once a week it updates one GitHub issue titled "pilotless: weekly status": a summary line (commits, people, PRs merged, issues closed and opened), then Shipped, In flight, Needs a decision or a nudge, Closed, and Who moved code (per-author commit counts). "Needs a decision or a nudge" lists stalled PRs (open, no activity for 7+ days) and unassigned issues (no assignee, quiet for 14+ days) [4][5]. Our opinion: for a team of 3–30 working in one GitHub org, a plain weekly list of what's stuck is often enough.
Bottom line: Steady is a coordination platform. Pilotless is a single weekly digest.
Pricing
| Pilotless | Steady [3] | |
|---|---|---|
| Free | The GitHub App is free | 100 free credits per added user |
| Entry | n/a | $25/month for 500 credits |
| Scale | n/a | Up to $1,750/month for 35,000 credits (+15% bonus); 50,000+ custom |
| Users | n/a | Unlimited, no per-seat cost |
| Overages | n/a | No automatic billing for overages. Deliveries stop when credits run out; Steady keeps collecting updates and activity for 7 days |
We haven't calculated a Steady cost for a sample team. It depends on deliveries and token use, and Steady's own estimator makes several assumptions [3].
If you used Status Hero before
Your account and data questions belong with Steady, not us. Check runsteady.com. If what you liked about Status Hero was a short status on what moved and what's blocked, and your team works in GitHub, Pilotless covers the GitHub half of that for free. It doesn't collect people's own check-ins.
Pick Steady if…
You coordinate several teams, or people and AI coding agents together [2].
You want check-ins, goal tracking and personalised digests in Slack, Teams or email [2][3].
You need SSO, SAML or SCIM and SOC 2 Type 2 [3].
Your work spans many tools beyond GitHub [2].
Pick Pilotless if…
You're a small team in GitHub and want one weekly list of stalled PRs and unassigned issues.
You don't want to manage credits or AI token usage.
You want it free.
